WITH A SMILE

Practice your asanas with a smile. When you smile, you trick your brain into a sense of happiness and contentment and soon, it becomes YOU!

Sure there are people who work better with an intense look of concentration, but in my own experience, smiling makes all the difference. Many times when i attempt a new pose, i don't nail it immediately, hell sometimes i even face plant (happened a lot when i was first introduced to crow pose), roll over or even come crashing down. There is a potential for all of these to lead to a ton of frustration and stress, which altogether defeats the purpose for practicing Yoga.

The alternative? Simply smile, take your practice lightly, laugh at (or with) yourself when you fall and try again (or later, there's no rush). You have as long as you live to grow in a pose so let the journey, not just the destination be your joy.

The next time you take on a challenging posture, breathe in deeply with a gentle smile on your face and see yourself get relaxed and the pose get easier.
